We encounter so many ways each day to show God’s love, in
big ways and in small ways, with and without much self-sacrifice. As my husband
mentioned in an earlier post, indeed there are people in need so close by. So
why would we incur such expenses as plane tickets, a week off work, food and
lodging, etc. to help our brothers and sisters all the way in Nicaragua?

Flexibility and Forgiveness
We have made it to Esteli! We are excited to be settling down here for the week. This city is the location of our Habitat build site, which we will finally be working at tomorrow!
Prior to leaving for Esteli this morning we went through our trip orientation. The presentation was an eye opening look at the extreme poverty level and need for homes there is here in Nicaragua. It is the 2nd poorest country in Latin America and 79% of the people live on less than $2 per day, while 43% live on less than $1 per day. Many homes have inadequate roofs and 45% have dirt floors. This is a look into a world that is quite unfamiliar to most of us. Living in a world without the comforts of modern technology can almost seem incomprehensible. It certainly makes me feel humbled and truly blessed for all the things I daily take for granted, such as indoor plumbing and clean, accessible drinking water.

¡Bienvenidos a Nicaragua!
We arrived safely in Nicaragua today!
A super early flight had us at O'hare before the crack of dawn so needless to say we were all excited to board so we could grab some rest before our busy work week. The advantage of such an early flight (besides the airport being calm and peaceful), is being able to see the sunrise from the sky. And it was gorgeous!
No matter how many times I fly, I am always amazed by the breathtaking views. God's creation is so beautiful and never ceases to amaze me, but something about being in the clouds makes it even that much better.

Hello friends, family, and supporters of Team Crossroads Nicaragua!
After months of preparation, we are so excited to finally embark on this journey together and to put God's love into action. We feel so privileged and blessed to be God's hands and feet where there is such great need! By participating in this trip, Team Crossroads is helping a family with their dream of having a simple yet decent and secure home. During our week in Estelí, Nicaragua, we will be working on the walls and floor of a core house for the Ruiz family. How blessed we are to be able to express and share our faith in a new, exciting way -- one that will inspire and help others through doing God's work!
We are thrilled to begin this adventure together and so grateful for your support and encouragement!
